Which Surfaces Are Worth Sanitizing?

Posted on November 25, 2022

There is something loaded about asking about the worth of a cleaning service. Is anything truly worth anything? Isn’t all value in the eye of the beholder? Well, we will try to ground the question a bit by specifying that if you are worried about toxins, viruses, bacteria, mold, etc., which surfaces should you clean to be better protected?

In most cases, you can get a lot of cleaning done using steam cleaning services. Between temperature and pressure, you are going to sanitize most materials. For more extensive deeper cleaning, there are a few extra steps you can take. But let’s just focus on the surfaces you could benefit from cleaning.

Floor Coverings

Yes, it is important to sanitize your carpets from time to time. Fabrics can accumulate many harmful substances over time. That is why carpet cleaning and rug cleaning are so important. And running a vacuum over carpeting is not enough to actually sanitize the area either.

Pets can track in all kinds of germs, but so can shoes. And with a little bit of excess moisture, mold can start to grow on a carpet. If there is anything your home has been exposed to, then sanitizing your carpet is just as important as washing the clothing you were wearing.

Beds

Sometimes people forget how much time they spend in their bed. It is easy to overlook because, for the most part, you are asleep and not keeping track of the time. But even though you are cleaning your bedding, blankets, and sheets, you still have a mattress that could use a bit of sanitizing.

How do you clean a mattress? The best way is a mattress cleaning service. This type of sanitizing can even take care of pests like bed bugs. Just make sure you have it done properly by a technician who has experience cleaning mattresses specifically because they are a significantly different surface to most.

Furniture

Furniture comes in many varieties, and can have either solid material surface or be covered in fabric. Metal can hold bacteria on it for a long time, but don’t forget about softer materials that could benefit from upholstery cleaning. Almost every surface can hold germs, mold, and other impurities.

You are handling furniture all the time, pulling and pushing in chairs, bracing yourself to get off the couch, and generally putting your body all over the place. So it only makes sense to be sure that these surfaces are sanitized with some amount of regularity.

Hard Surfaces

We talked a little bit about furniture with hard surfaces, but there are also hard surfaces like countertops and even floors that can accumulate harmful substances. You probably wipe down your countertops and tables after each meal (hopefully you do), but are you killing germs?

And beyond the easy-to-sanitize flat or textureless hard surfaces, you need a plan for tile and grout cleaning. Cleaning tile is often a bit complicated because the grime can collect in the valleys between tiles. Sanded grout can also resist scrubbing implements. So it could be advantageous to call for cleaning service.
